Top 10 Engineering Colleges in India
India is home to some of best engineering institutes that offer both under graduate and post graduate courses. In addition to the four metropolitan cities, the top engineering colleges in India are located in other cities like Kanpur, Roorkee, Guwahati, Vellore, Kharagpur and Allahabad among several others. Students can opt for government run engineering colleges as well as privately owned institutes.
Most of the top engineering colleges in India have a uniform system of selection procedure.
For example admission to the undergraduate programs at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) for Indian and Foreign nationals is on the basis of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) score.
These institutes have research programs that are equivalent to the very best in the world. Another important engineering college is the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University located in Varanasi. It is one of the oldest institutions dedicated to education in the different engineering disciplines. Other common entrance tests for admissions to the top engineering colleges in India include GATE, and JMET. The eligibility criterion for applying to the various engineering institutes in the country is that candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in science stream. The cutoff percentage for being eligible for admissions may vary from college to college.
The various engineering disciplines that students can opt for specialization include Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer, Biochemical, Chemical and Electrical Engineering. Some of the top engineering colleges in India like IIT, Delhi and others also offer short term courses on various subjects. The engineering colleges in India also have very active placement cells that invite some of the top companies for recruitment at the campus.

TOFEL
Path to Test Day: How to get there from here
Here’s a step-by-step guide of everything you need to do from today, to test day, and even after. To help you stay on track and on time, print out the guide below. Remember to check off the steps as you go along.
Step 1: | TODAY: Select the locations and schools you want to go to, then see if they accept the TOEFL test — and what score requirements you’ll need for admissions. Click here to search for TOEFL-accepting schools by location or school name. |
Step 2: | Find out the English-language requirements you need to get your student visa for the country where you want to study. They vary by your home country and the country where your selected schools are located; for details, visit your destination country’s immigration agency website. |
Step 3: | 3-6 MONTHS BEFORE THE TEST: Create an account with your profile and register for the TOEFL test — which includes selecting up to 4 places you want your scores sent to. For most countries, you can register up to 4 or even 6 months before the test date you select. Registering early to guarantee your seat is important. Be sure to take the test 2 to 3 months before your earliest school application deadline. NOTE:Once you register, print out your Registration Confirmation to bring with you on test day. |
Step 4: | If you haven’t already, start preparing. In fact, you can start preparing even beforeyou register. We recommend you begin preparing at least 8 weeks before your test date. The more you practice, the more confident you’ll be on test day — and the easier it will be to take the TOEFL test. Especially when you use official TOEFL test tools to prepare. Save up to 35%. Choose from our new TOEFL® Value Packs that include our most popular prep tools and other extras. Order now. |
Step 5: | 48 HOURS BEFORE THE TEST: Just in case a change was made at your test site (like a change in start time or room number), go to your TOEFL iBT™ profile and re-print your Registration Confirmation. You’ll need to bring it with you to the test site, along with an acceptable, valid ID with your name, recent photo and signature. For more details on ID requirements, and what to expect on test day, click here. |
Step 6: | 12-24 HOURS BEFORE THE TEST: You have until 10pm local test site time the night before the test to select or change your score recipients (the institutions or agencies you want to receive your scores). To select or change your score recipients, log in to your TOEFL profile. Be sure to get a good night’s sleep! |
Step 7: | DAY OF THE TEST: Have a good breakfast, and get to the test site at least 30 minutes early. Make sure you bring your ID and your Registration Confirmation with you. One more thing to bring: a snack to eat during the 10-minute break you get midway through the test. |
Step 8: | 2 WEEKS AFTER THE TEST: Log in to your TOEFL iBT profile to check your scores; they’re posted online approximately 2 weeks after your test date, as well as mailed to you and your score recipients within 2 weeks after your test date. Once you get your scores, you can decide if you want to re-take the TOEFL test, or order additional score reports to send to other institutions or agencies. Did you know? We’ve partnered with Metametrics®, creator of The Lexile Framework® for Reading, to help you use your TOEFL reading score to find books that match your reading level. When you practice reading with materials at the right level, you can advance your reading ability for lifelong reading improvement.
